Soccer

Soccer is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each on a rectangular field, typically with a grass surface. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a round ball into the opposing team’s net, which is located at either end of the field. Players primarily use their feet to control, pass, and shoot the ball, while the goalkeeper is allowed to use their hands to defend the goal within a designated area known as the penalty area.

The game is governed by specific rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Soccer is a globally popular sport, often referred to as football in most countries outside of North America. It is organized at various levels, from amateur leagues to professional competitions, and encompasses international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup. The game emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and athletic skill, making it one of the most widespread and culturally significant sports in the world.
